The Fans Have Spoken! The Spy Who Dumped Me Is the People’s Choice Awards Comedy Movie of 2018

The Spy Who Dumped Me was one of the big winners at the E! People’s Choice Awards tonight. The hit film took home the award for Comedy Movie of 2018. The fans couldn’t get enough of the laugh out loud comedy and we don’t blame them at all. The Spy Who Dumped Me, starring Mila Kunis and Kate McKinnon, tells the story of two best friends who accidentally become involved with an international conspiracy when one of the women figures out that her ex-boyfriend was a spy. Kunis took the stage to accept the award from Will Farrell and John C. Reilly and thanked the fans of course. “Guys, this is actually really cool. Thank you! We loved working on the film and are so, so happy you guys responded to it,” Kunis gushed on stage. “Thank you for taking the time to vote.” Kunis also took time during her acceptance speech to encourage fans to support people in need after the California wildfires. The Spy Who Dumped Me beat out Blockers, Mamma Mia: Here We Go Again, Crazy Rich Asians and Love, Simon to win Comedy Movie of 2018 at the People’s Choice Awards. It was such a pleasure working with the post production team and we are so happy for the movie’s success! 

Kathleen Turner, Ginnifer Goodwin & Kyle Bornheimer To Star In “These Old Bones” Episode Of Dolly Parton Netflix Anthology

Kathleen Turner, Ginnifer Goodwin and Kyle Bornheimer are set to star in Dolly Parton’s Heartstrings: These Old Bones, an episode of Netflix’s upcoming eight-episode anthology series that showcases the stories, memories and inspirations behind Parton’s most beloved songs. This is the second episode of the anthology series to have its cast announced following Jolene, which will star Julianne Hough as the title character, Kimberly Williams-Paisley, Dallas Roberts and Parton. Scored by new and classic Parton music, each stand-alone episode in Dolly Parton’s Heartstrings will begin with an introduction by Parton talking/singing to camera (as herself) about the meaning behind each song. Each episode will feature a different cast, and Parton will star/guest star in some. They will vary in tone, from love stories and inspirational tales to family dramas, Westerns, and revenge comedies. We are so lucky to be working with the post production team and can’t wait to check out the series!  All eight episodes will launch at once in 2019 on Netflix. 

“Deadwood” Movie Starts Shooting With 12 Returning Cast Members & One New

HBO Films’ long-in-the-works Deadwood movie has begun production 12 years after the end of the premium network’s Emmy-winning Western series from David Milch. Most of that original cast is returning for the film, which takes place 10 years after the events of the series that ran three seasons from 2004-2006. The film includes a new cast member, Jade Pettyjohn, who will play the character of Caroline. The plot, per HBO: The indelible characters of the series are reunited after 10 years to celebrate South Dakota’s statehood. Former rivalries are reignited, alliances are tested and old wounds are reopened, as all are left to navigate the inevitable changes that modernity and time have wrought. The Deadwood series was nominated for 28 Emmys during its run, winning eight. In July, HBO president Casey Bloys tipped an October production start for the film, and hinted at a possible spring 2019 debut. He called rustling up the original auspices for the movie “a logistical nightmare.” The network received a near-$4.2 million California Film & TV state tax credit for the production. The hardest part of getting the film up and running had been synching up the schedules of its large ensemble cast.

How Robin Wright Took Charge of “House of Cards” and Saved the Final Season

“My turn.” Those two words which closed the Season 5 finale of House of Cards, could not have been more prophetic. When the Netflix political potboiler returns for its sixth and final season on Nov. 2, Robin Wright’s first-lady-turned-commander-in-chief Claire Underwood will be in the seat of power. The character was always slated to move into the Oval Office, but with the hasty exit of star Kevin Spacey amid sexual harassment allegations, the transition was cemented. It was our pleasure working with the post production crew for multiple seasons and we will definitely miss them! Read more about Robin’s take charge stance here!

“Curb Your Enthusiasm” Season 10 Finally Begins Production

Filming has finally begun on Curb Your Enthusiasm Season 10. HBO confirmed production started Friday, 10 months after the premium cable network announced the Larry David-led series had been renewed. No plot details or premiere date was given for the return of the “Seinfeld” co-creator’s neuroses-laced program.  David’s comedy was renewed for a tenth season by HBO last December, with production set to begin in spring 2018 and a yet-to-be-determined debut date yet given. “We are thrilled that Larry will be back with his uniquely acerbic wit and comedic sensibility,” HBO Programming president Casey Bloys said at the time, with David adding: “As I’ve said many times, when one has the opportunity to annoy someone, one should do so.” Curb was once again nominated for an Outstanding Comedy Emmy this year — as it has been every season, except for its first — with David receiving another nod for Outstanding Lead Actor in a Comedy, as he has been six times now for the series.  It is great to be working with the post production team for yet another season and we can’t wait to check out the new season! 

Sebastian Stan, Jamie Dornan to Romance Shailene Woodley in New Drake Doremus Film

Sebastian Stan and Jamie Dornan are set to compete for the affections of Shailene Woodley in an untitled new indie film from director Drake Doremus. Woodley will play an artist who dumps her longtime boyfriend, but her attempt to take a break from dating ends when she quickly finds herself in two passionate romances — one with Dornan’s artsy writer, the other with Stan’s passionate bad boy. Matthew Gray Gubler will co-star in the LA-set film, which Doremus co-wrote with novelist Jardine Libaire. The film was developed under the working title of No, No, No, Yes but it’s unlikely that title will stick. Doremus has always had a knack for casting major stars, from a young Jennifer Lawrence and Felicity Jonesin Like Crazy, to Kristen Stewart and Nicholas Hoult in Equals, to Ewan McGregor and Lea Seydoux in Zoe. We’ve worked with Doremus before and are excited to have one of his movies back!  

“House of Cards” Team on Killing Frank Underwood and Its “Beautifully Macabre” Ending

In the final season of Netflix’s House of Cards, Claire Underwood (Robin Wright) will have many challenges ahead as the first female president in the world of the political thriller. And one of them is the ghost of her late husband, Frank Underwood. The character, formerly played by Kevin Spacey, was written out of the show after the actor/ executive producer was fired following sexual assault allegations. Production on the forthcoming sixth and final season of the Netflix drama was shut down so the story could be reworked to send Frank six feet under. Ahead of its Nov. 2 return, Netflix has already confirmed that Frank is indeed dead (following the events of the book on which the series is based). The political drama will not waste any time in revealing Frank’s fate. “We didn’t want to be coy about it and we didn’t want to run away from it,” co-showrunner Melissa James Gibson explained Wednesday during The Hollywood Reporter‘s TV Talks series at New York’s 92nd Street Y, where she was joined by executive producer Frank Pugliese and stars Robin Wright and Michael Kelly for a discussion after a screening of the season six premiere. Read more about what the team had to say here. 

“The Christmas Chronicles” Trailer: Kurt Russell Is Santa in Netflix’s Holiday Film

In Netflix’s upcoming holiday family film The Christmas Chronicles, Kurt Russell’s Kris Kringle isn’t the typical Santa Claus. The pic, produced by Chris Columbus (Home Alone, Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone), stars Judah Lewis (The Babysitter) and Darby Camp (Big Little Lies) as siblings Teddy and Kate Pierce. Their plan to catch Santa on camera goes awry when he crashes his sleigh in Chicago, leading them to team up with St. Nick and his elves to save Christmas. Russell’s fit, tough-guy Santa is nothing like previous portrayals of Kris Kringle, however. “You don’t look like Santa Claus,” Teddy tells him as the two stare at a traditional artist rendering of Father Christmas on a billboard across the street.“Well, billboards add 80 pounds,” Santa quips back. The film, which was helmed by The Angry Birds Movie director Clay Kaytis, is a co-production between Columbus’ 1492 Pictures, Madhouse Entertainment and Wonder Worldwide. The Christmas Chronicles will be streaming on Netflix, November 22 . 

Fox Treats Second-Season Launch of “9-1-1” Like a First-Season Debut

Fox is really shaking things up to get people to tune in to the second season of first-responders drama “9-1-1.” The 21st Century Fox-owned broadcast unveiled that the series will kick off this fall with a massive earthquake set in Los Angeles, a storyline that will extend over two different hour-long episodes on Sunday, September 23 and Monday, September 24. To drive the point home, Fox has created a range of unique promotions that play off the disaster at the center of the series’ debut. The network is using more than clever promotions to generate interest. Late summer and early fall are always filled with a barrage of promotional campaigns for the new TV season, but Fox’s work behind “9-1-1” is somewhat unique. After all, the show is in its sophomore season. TV networks often place most of their efforts on their freshmen crop. The show’s second-season premiere will debut after Fox’s usual serving of Sunday football – one of TV’s highest-rated properties. “We’re strategically using the NFL doubleheader lead-in on Sunday as a sampling opportunity for episode one, then using that episode to drive as many viewers as we can into the new time period premiere on Monday,” says Shannon Ryan, Fox’s chief marketing officer, in a statement. We are so lucky to be working with the post production team and can’t wait to check out the new season! 

Joaquin Phoenix’s Joker Unveiled in First-Look Photo

Director Todd Phillips on Sunday shared the first look of star Joaquin Phoenix as the Joker in the stand-alone film about the iconic Batman supervillain. The photo, shared by Phillips on Instagram, features Phoenix in a green jacket and shirt with a scruffy hairdo and the hint of a smirk on his face. Absent are the character’s iconic clown makeup and green locks. “Arthur,” Phillips captioned the picture, seemingly confirming rumors that the character’s real name will be Arthur Fleck. The stand-alone film will follow the origin of Batman’s most notorious foe as he transforms from a struggling stand-up comedian to a full-blown criminal force of nature. The movie is described as an “exploration of a man disregarded by society that is not only a gritty character study, but also a broader cautionary tale.” Phillips co-wrote the script with The Fighter and The Finest Hours scribe Scott Silver.
